Healing the Co-conspirator
I heard a minister say that we are all created to solve a problem in this world.
While I can’t say if this is a true statement of fact, I can say that anyone who follows the teachings of Jesus, the will of God, or the teachings of many enlightened masters of the past, will most certainly strive to be part of a solution, rather than part of a problem.
Unfortunately, we humans too often find ourselves behaving and reacting as co-conspirators who perpetuate and feed the problem instead of solving it. We actually want to argue or plead our case on why our thinking is right and the other person’s is faulty. However, this method of problem solving takes much longer than it needs to, if it works at all, and usually sucks us deeper into the miry clay which is “the problem.”
No one wants to become part of the problem, and yet we sometimes do so without thinking about it. As St. Paul stated in Romans 7:15,
“For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.”
What we must learn to remind ourselves of, in any situation, is that we need to think and act out of love, if we truly want a workable solution. And yes, we can actually have loving thoughts regarding any situation, if we think about it long enough. And… while we are thinking about applying loving thoughts to a situation, a person, or a group, we also allow ourselves the time to re-connect to God, which is connecting to Love.
That is when we are healed and are no longer co-conspirators, but are converted into problem solvers.
Winning is not about who can be the loudest, the most dominant, the most convincing, or who can walk out of the room having the last word. Although that can feel really good in the moment, it usually has a short life-span. Afterwards, we are still facing the same problem – but now there may be hurt feelings to deal with.
Winning is finding the solution from love and compassion, and as a teacher or a mentor. Those younger or less experienced than us are watching and learning, whether we know it or not.
Whether we intend it or not, we are always teaching by our actions and reactions.
Most of us would rather be problem solvers, not loud and bossy problem creators or co-conspirators that keep problems alive and well.
In every situation, we can ask God and the angels to help us stop perpetuating our negative attitudes, and ask them to help us open our minds and hearts to love.
He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand. (Psalms 40:2 World English Bible)
