According to David F. Vennells, author of “Reiki for Beginners,” Reiki is an expression of perfect love.

I couldn’t agree more. The first time I realized this healing power existed was when I took my child’s feet in my hands and as I blew on them I pleaded with God and willed the pain to go away. She had terrible foot pain when she was around 4 to 6 yrs old. I had prayed over her many times, but when I grasped her tiny little foot in my hands and my “gut” told me to blow on them, things changed. She was sweetly sleeping in a matter of seconds.

Still, it was many years before I began to study Reiki. Partly because of my Christian indoctrination that anything not talked about in the Bible was not of God. Thank God that I allowed Him to open my eyes and lift that veil of deceit that keeps many people suffering needlessly.

Reiki is not an exclusive tool that is only for a few, but it is the energy of the universe and is available to all of us, as a healing gift from the Creator, if we choose to seek it.

I have heard many people who participate in different types of energy healing who frequently mention that they are empty, drained or exhausted after sharing their gift. I was one of those people – until I realized that it was a psychological drain that was taking place, which affected the body much like strenuous physical exercise, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Think of a single lit candle. You take that lit candle and proceed to light another candle with it, and then another. Now you have 3 lighted candles, all of which are glowing with the same bright flame. The first candle’s flame was not diminished by sharing its light with another candle. So it should be with humans who share their energy with others.

There are many things I could say about Reiki, but instead, for now, I will paraphrase a quote from Hawayo Takata.

We are in a vast universe that has enough energy to make plants grow and birds fly. This energy is endless. It is provided by the Creator. It is God. All we need do is call upon this God-given energy.

My life has changed so much since I began to acknowledge my gift of energy healing. I pursued Kundalini Reiki and am now studying Usui Reiki because I want to know more about the ancient practice of energy healing.

All good and perfect gifts come from God.
