Subconscious Mind

Your subconscious mind started recording emotions and events from the moment your life began.

A good example of this is my daughter’s fear of clowns. She was just a toddler  fastened safely in her carseat as we headed to the elementary school for a fall festival.  Her 2 sisters and brother were with us, and were all chatty-chatty from the excitement.

As we turned into the street beside the school, I realized we would have to park on the street because the parking lots were full - it was a successful event. The sides of the street were lined with very tall red tip bushes to create a sort of privace fence. I had to parallel park - which I hate. As I was pulling into the parking spot, a clown suddenly appeared right in front of the car… he had come from between two bushes and we couldn’t see him coming. I slammed on the brake and the kids started screaming. Everything was fine, he even did a brief apologetic and amusing performance right then and there. Meanwhile, my baby girl SEEMED to be fine.

Little did I know that this event would cause her to associate the impending fear she felt because of all the screaming, to this happy, harmless person in a clown suit. She didn’t even like going to parades unless we promised to grab her and run if a clown approached our “sacred space.” She was around 12 years old before I realized what had caused her terror of clowns.

Was her fear of clowns real?

Yes, it was very real to her.

Was the fear rational?

No, there was nothing to fear from the clowns she encountered.

Her subconscious mind did exactly what it was supposed to do. It gathered data and stored it for future use. It had/has no way of knowing if the data is logical. It simply records words, deeds, events, sightings, etc. of things that cause a “traumatic” reaction. This is how it helps protect us.

It is up to our rational and logical minds to inform and reform the information stored in our subconscious minds.  Unfortunately, this is easier said than done.

Even though my daughter now knows at age 17 why she had this irrational fear of clowns, they are still not her favorite people.

Fortunately, science has figured out ways by which we can alter our subconscious minds to help free ourselves of unhealthy habits, thoughts and reactions.

Subliminal tapes and videos have worked remarkably well for most people. Meditation, visualization and affirmations have worked equally well on others. A combination of these methods will help to reach your goal more quickly.

It takes time - a real commitment to want to change and to listen or view the information as instructed.

It’s not hard, it just takes a commitment.

It doesn’t take long, but it takes a commitment. It may not happen overnight, but it can happen in a week, a month, or 3 months.

Isn’t changing life for the better worth that little bit of time?

Of course, and yet, multitudes of people continue down the same winding path that leads them to stress, disease and mental torment.

There are many viable professionals offering their methods of changing the subconscious mind. I have listed a few of them below for your perusal.
